Ms. Gloria Rogers, 75, of Belhaven, N.C., passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2024, in Washington, N.C.

ELDRESS GLORIA SWINDELL ROGERS finished her work on Earth and returned home to her heavenly Father on Saturday March 9, 2024. She was born on January 19, 1949 to the late Joseph

N. Swindell and the late Lillie Mae Barrow Swindell Buckingham. She was blessed to share her life with ten siblings; four sisters and six brothers.

She attended Beaufort County Schools, where she graduated from Belhaven High School in 1967.

After graduating from high school, she continued her education at Shaw University in Raleigh, NC, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology. Gloria was a proud graduate of the first School of Ministry in Belhaven, NC. She graduated with a Diploma in Christian Education from the Mt. Gilead School of Ministry in 2011. Pursuing her passion for ministry, Eldress Gloria returned to her alma mater, Shaw University. In 2019, Gloria received her Masters of Christian Education from Shaw University School of Divinity. Gloria educational journey has allowed her to attend numerous of other schools and received countless certificates. She was definitely a life-long learner.

After graduating from College, she located to the Washington, DC area. She was employed by DC Government until she took an early retirement in 1998. She held many different job roles during her tenue at DC Government. Shortly thereafter, Gloria returned back to her first love, Belhaven, NC. She was passionately inspired by the spirit of God to launch the former J and L Tourist House in Belhaven, NC. She served as the town clerk for the Town of Belhaven, North Carolina from2016-2019 and during COVID, Gloria was employed by the Carolina Contact Tracing.

Gloria was married to the late Jesse Rogers. They were inseparable. Gloria and Jesse joined the First Baptist Church in Belhaven, NC, where she held many positions. After much prayer, they moved their membership to White Plains Ministries, Inc. Gloria' first position at White Plains Church Ministries, Inc. was an Usher. She served in the following capacities: Trustee, Church Administrative Assistant, Minister and Adult Sunday School Teacher. It was at White Plains Church Ministries, Inc. that Gloria answered the call into ministry.

Gloria was preceded in death by her five brothers: George, Joseph, Harry, Anthony and Jimmie Swindell, three sisters: Emma Barrow, Gwendolyn Swindell-Jones and Ann M. Barbee.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her son, Mark Swindell, one daughter: Jessica Rogers, one granddaughter: Janyra Rogers-Simpson, one sister: Jean Scott (Harry) of Kingstree South Carolina, one brother: Lavandis Swindell (Havanna) of Portsmouth, Virginia. She also leaves to cherish her memories a host of loving family and friends,
